Sandipani Ashram Ujjain

Sandipani Ashram is a revered site in Ujjain, built in memory of Maharishi Sandipani, where, according to mythology, Guru Sandipani imparted knowledge to Shri Krishna, his friend Sudama, and Krishna’s brother Balram. The ashram, which now resembles a temple, houses idols of Krishna, Balram, and Sudama alongside that of Guru Sandipani. A notable feature within the complex is a stone engraved with numerals from 1 to 100, believed to have been inscribed by Guru Sandipani himself. The sprawling ashram is home to several shrines, with the primary shrine dedicated to Guru Sandipani. Among the prominent temples is Sarveshwar Mahadev, which enshrines a 6,000-year-old Shivalinga accompanied by a natural formation of Sheshnaag, said to have been worshipped by Guru Sandipani and his disciples. The ashram also features Gomati Kund, a large stepped tank where Lord Krishna is believed to have summoned holy waters from various sacred sites, making it easier for Guru Sandipani to perform rituals. Devotees consider the water from this tank sacred and often take it home for its spiritual significance.
